JUSTICE & PEACE
Your way of acting must be different from
the world’s way.
Never give a hollow
greeting of peace or turn away when
someone needs your love.
(RB 4)
Let peace be your quest and aim.
(RB Prologue)
The Benedictine Sisters of Emmanuel Monastery have a long-standing corporate commitment to seeking after peace and justice in our individual lives, our relationships with others, and on a broader scale within our contemporary society. Within this commitment we establish priorities to respond to justice issues of our time.
Whether the issue be living non-violently with one another in community, caring for the earth, standing for non-violence in public affairs, promoting justice for women in the church and in society, or working for just treatment of immigrants and undocumented persons, we respond out of a profound respect for the dignity of persons and for all of God's creation. Our personal and ministerial lives are shaped in response to Benedict’s challenge to seek after peace.
The Benedictine Sisters are among the founding communities of the Murphy Initiative for Justice and Peace in the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
